After giving myself a few weeks for distance, I finally made some editing decisions. In the end, two whole chapters got the axe — and it felt really good. I think I was worried about this for quite a while, knowing I’d have to make those kinds of decisions and imagining how hard it would be. It wasn’t though. The chapters were the ones that didn’t quite sit well with me anyway and after a bit of thinking them through it wasn’t hard to see that what information they conveyed could be put into others and was mostly already there anyway.
So now Lakeside Rain is a good 8000 words thinner but I think better for it. No more long rambling conversation about the fact that nothing happened. *shakes head at self*
I’ll spend the next few days inserting those bits of information into a few key places but it doesn’t sound like that much work, really.
